Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Corporate Social Investment Concepts (CSI-Concepts) Foundation have been commended for their contribution to community development.

Receiving donations from CSI-Concepts Foundation on July 6, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Eric Molale said activities that supported vulnerable communities deserved to be recognised as they were in line with government’s commitment of supporting vulnerable communities.

He cited the Desert Bush Walk, an initiative by CSI-Concepts Foundation, saying it helped to mobilise resources for social protection.

He added that  social protection remained government’s primary obligation. CSI-Concepts Foundation has donated 700 neck buffs that would be given to deserving primary school children.

“We commit to exploring partnerships and collaborative efforts with you through Jwaneng Town Council and Southern District Council to compliment your efforts in resource mobilisation and build a relationship to support remote areas,” said the minister.

Chairperson of CSI-Concepts Foundation, Mr Archibald Ngakayagae said the foundation supported inclusive and sustainable projects with emphasis on community empowerment, children and underprivileged members of society.

Since its inception in 2014 the Desert Bush Walk has raised over P1.5 million, and over 32 000 school pupils have benefited from the foundation across Botswana.

Some of the projects carried out by the foundation include the construction of a creative learning centre, acquisition of equipment for a resource centre, acquisition of computers for schools, construction of a reception classroom as well as the contribution of funds for an early childhood development programme and the COVID-19 relief programme. Ends
