06 Jul 2020

Hukuntsi branch of Botswana Savings Bank has donated 250 branded masks to Hunhukwe Primary School.

Speaking during the handing over, Hukuntsi Branch Manager, Mr Theodore Korb said after announcement of government’s mandatory requirement to wear masks in public places, they thought of donating masks to schools to help prevent the spread of the virus since schools are amongst some of the critical places.

“We have identified various schools to support in areas such as Matsiloje and Serowe”, he said.

Mr Korb further explained that the donation was part of BSB Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme under the staff volunteers’ initiative called I Care.

He said through the I care initiative, branch managers across the country were given the opportunity to spearhead the project to assess schools within their vicinities.

He said upon completion of the task, 1 500 masks were designed locally, with specially selected fabric, specially designed for children, as well as colours, that would complement the uniforms of the chosen schools.

He said they were proud to be contributing towards the fight against the global pandemic.

Moreover, he urged school management to encourage pupils to wear their masks both at school and in public spaces, not forgetting to observe social distancing at all times.

For her part, Hukuntsi Sub-region Education Officer, Ms Neo Tsietso, applauded BSB for the noble gesture, which she said it would go a long way in assisting their learners, who are in the boarding facility and those whose families were not able to provide for them.

She also extended appreciation to different organisations such as Hukuntsi Sub-land board and individuals, who heeded the call by donating hand washing soaps, blankets and other necessities needed in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 at learning institutions.

For his part, Hunhukwe Primary School boarding master, Mr Kgakgamatso Keadimilwe also applauded BSB for reaching out to their pupils.

He noted that they have 196 pupils in their boarding facility and that the masks would help especially children from less privileged families. Ends
