Man drowns in Thamalakane River

The body of a 26-year-old man suspected to have drowned himself in Thamalakane River at Maun was retrieved from the river on June 29.
An interview on Monday, Maun Police Assistant Superintendent Borefeletse Papane confirmed that the body was discovered by Police and SSG scuba divers 50 metres away from Old Matlapana bridge towards Sedie.
Assistant Supt Papane had earlier informed BOPA that the man, who was from Disana ward, was suspected to have drowned in Thamalakane River on June 25 after posting a photo taken at the Old Matlapana Bridge with the caption ‘My last photo’ on Whats App.
Assistant Supt Papane said the man had allegedly sent a message to the mother of his baby which stated that ‘It is not about me, it is not about you, it’s about the pain, bye bye.’
It was alleged that the man went to the lady’s house at Sedie ward where he left his mobile phone.
The woman, who was not at home at the time, later saw his footprints which led to the riverbank.
The police, he said started a searching around Thamalakane River from the Old Matlapana Bridge towards Sedie on June 26 until the body was found. ends
