Seven on quarantine in Kanye

01 Jul 2020

A total of seven workers were on June 26 put on 14-day quarantine pending testing after they were identified as direct contacts of a trucker who had tested positive for COVID-19 recently.

In an interview, Southern District Commissioner, Mr Mmoloki Raletobana said the seven workers came into direct contact with the driver who was delivering essential services  to some shops in Kanye.

Additionally, he said two security officers were also quarantined as a precautionary measure after a COVID-19 positive driver from Maun passed by the Moatle junction zonal boundary where they were deployed.

The boundary separates Kgalagadi from the Greater Gaborone zone, which Kanye is a part of. On other issues, the district commissioner said generally, people in the district were observing COVID-19 protocols, save for a few incidents.

He said his office had experienced decline in movement permit applications since the introduction of online inter-zonal permits.

However, he noted that they had a slightly higher number of applications on weekends mostly from the elderly who wanted to cross zones for various social engagements.

He explained most of those who came to the office were people who had experienced technical glitches in trying to apply online or not techno savvy. ends
