Woman burns to death in car at Kaduwe lands

29 Jun 2020

Jwaneng Police Station Commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti has said they do not rule out an act of passion killing in an incident where a charred  body of a woman was found in a vehicle at Kaduwe lands near Jwaneng over the weekend.

In an interview with BOPA, Supt. Basuti said that they received a report around 9pm on Saturday that a vehicle was involved in an accident and was on fire.

“We rushed to the scene and indeed found the said vehicles, a Honda fit, but it was already completely burnt.

Inside was a body of a woman who was also burnt beyond recognition on the passenger seat.

While we were still at the scene a man appeared and informed us that he was with the woman,” he said.

Supt Basuti said that according to the man, the car experienced a mechanical fault and caught fire. He said that the man indicated that he managed to escape while the woman was trapped inside.

“His story failed to convince us. It was suspicious in that the vehicle was parked well off the road reserve, indicating that there was ample time for people to escape if indeed the vehicle caught fire accidentally.

So we took the man to the hospital where he was admitted overnight before being released into our custody,” he said.

Supt. Basuti said that investigations into the matter are continuing while the ‘suspect will likely appear at court sometime this week.’ends
