28 Jun 2020

Ngamiland District has trained 200 volunteers for contact tracing in preparation for any COVID-19 cases that may arise.

The Ngami Regional Health Management Team (RHMT) head of preventive services, Dr Sandra Maripe said this at Tshidilo Stimulation Centre work preparedness workshop in Maun on Thursday.

The Ngamiland District, she said, had so far evaluated about 202 people who had contact with people who travelled to affected countries.

She however said out of that number, only 179 people were tested for coronavirus in the district since January and all tested negative.

Dr Maripe said COVID-19 was a respiratory disease that stuck on surfaces, hence people were encouraged to take precautionary measures by continuously washing hands and sanitising.

She encouraged the Tshidilo Stimulation Centre source a SHE officer who would ensure compliance to the COVID-19 regulations.

Dr Maripe also said workplaces and workstations should be decontaminated frequently to reduce chances of coronavirus.

Temperature screening and registration of people are crucial for contact tracing and supervisors must allow unwell officers to stay home, she said.

A social worker at Tshidilo Stimulation Centre, Ms Tagwa Chauke noted that the centre was moving in the right direction in preparation for welcoming pupils.

She observed that she had been appointed a SHE officer and had an assistant to ensure compliance to COVID-19 regulations at all times, adding that the centre has also formed a school health committee. Ends
