Mahupu Unified Secondary School teachers have been commended for displaying a spirit of unity when learners returned to school.
School head, Mr William Mbinda, said the support the teachers gave learners who returned on June 21 was heart warming.
Speaking in an interview on June 23, Mr Mbinda expressed delight at the support they accorded safety health and environment (SHE) officers.
He noted that while SHE officers were doing a great job, they were thin on the ground therefore teachers’s support came handy.Teachers, he said, did things without being pushed, something which was also a sign that they were committed to producing good results.
Mr Mbinda also commended boarding assistants for ensuring that pupils adhered to social distancing and wore face masks.
The school, he said, had the ability and capacity to attain desired results if all worked together.
The school head stated that the institution was capable of managing any situation through team work.
He said the school would keep on ensuring that all learners were screened and all other protocols adhered to, despite challenges presented by its 10 thermometers.
Mr Mbinda said a double shift system would be introduced in an effort to address shortage of classes in the Takatokwane based school.
He said the Ministry of Basic Education had come on board to help with the provision of more space for accommodation, which would help ease crowding at the girls hostels.
He said common rooms were being used to accommodate female pupils while a company had been engaged to convert three storerooms into temporary hostels.
Mr Mbinda said cold water remained a challenge because the boiler was dysfunctional.
He expressed happiness that old blocks in the school had been refurbished and maintained.
It was important, he said, that pupils be provided with a conducive learning environment so that they would not be depressed. ends
