Elephant Havens to drill borehole for Nxanxana

25 Jun 2020

Co-founder of Elephant Havens, a non-profit organisation, Mr Boago Poloko says they will donate a borehole to alleviate water shortage in Nxanxana settlement in the outskirts of Shorobe.

Mr Poloko made the remarks at a meeting by Maun East MP, Mr Goretetse Kekgonegile in Gabamocha on June 23.

Elephant Havens, which was founded in 2018, fostered young orphaned elephants as well as sensitising communities in the North West region about co-existing with elephants.

Mr Poloko said the NGO will drill and equip a borehole for Nxanxana and it would be similar to the one they drilled for Gabamocha.

He said Elephant Havens had plans to pilot a cluster fencing project for farmers in Gabamocha, a project which he said could be extended to other areas in Ngamiland region if successful.

Mr Poloko also urged residents of Gabamocha and surrounding areas to form a farmers association, which he said could help address their challenges through one voice.

He said residents still had an opportunity to find land where Elephant Havens would help with a farm for vegetables. ends
