23 Jun 2020

Contractor, which has been awarded the tender for the North East and Tutume sub-districts water supply project commenced business on March 23.

Speaking in an interview with BOPA yesterday, Water Utilities Corporation general manager in Masunga, Mr Boitumelo Legwaila said the project, proposed back in 2016, was the government’s decision to improve water supply across the country.

Mr Legwaila said the project, which was to be carried in 52 villages, was expected to take 17 months to finish.

The 52 villages include villages under North East, Tutume Sub- district as well as Shashe West constituencies.

Currently the company is on the first stage of establishing the site.

As the project covers two different areas, the contractor has planned to run the project concurrently with major works taking place in Masingwaneng, Kalakamati, Mbalambi, Moroka and Goshwe.

He added that there would bea construction of main tanks at Goshwe and Kalakamati and upon completion of the major pipe lines, there would be immediate improvement of water supply within the vicinity of these areas while the project would continue to cover all the 52 villages.

The project, Mr Legwaila said was funded by the World Bank at a cost of P229 040 891.

He said they were hopeful that by August/September 2021, shortage of water in these villages would be a thing of the past. ENDS
