 Government will protect students and teachers against the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has vowed.

  Speaking in an interview yesterday as the second batch of learners returned to school, he said  learning had to continue despite challenging circumstances.

   He said children should learn in a safe environment so that they could compete with the rest of the world which was also affected by COVID-19. 

President Masisi said government was determined to achieve its set targets even in the midst of COVID-19.  

He encouraged learners "not to despair and feel despondent but rather soldier on and recommit even harder."

He further said if schools were not opened, it would have meant that government  had given up on learning and competing, job seeking attainment and economic prosperity. 

Government, he said, was committed to support and protect every person in Botswana from contracting  COVID-19.ends
