COVID-19 inspires innovation cooperation

 Response by innovators and entrepreneurs to the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic has not gone unnoticed.

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, said the pandemic presented a challenge in the procurement of medical supplies, but with help from stakeholders, everything fell into place.

Addressing Serowe Administration Authority (SAA) leadership on June 18, Mr Tsogwane said universities also came to the party and responded positively.

“Inventions emerged from universities, such as the production of sanitisers, bar soaps, face masks while some academics are engaged in research projects on COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Mr Tsogwane.

He applauded Serowe Sub-district COVID-19 team for ensuring that the community was protected.

SAA deputy district commissioner, Mr Collen Tubego, informed the Vice President that 99.9 per cent of those eligible for COVID-19 food basket were assisted with only 13 awaiting assistance towards phase one closure.

Mr Tubego said this was possible through collaboration and team work.

The Vice President commended those who were engaged in the distribution of food hampers, saying they worked tirelessly to make sure that those who needed help were covered.

Thiers, he said, was an essential life saving role.

Mr Tsogwane cleared the mist surrounding Ipelegeng programmme and explained that numbers of employees had been reduced to adhere to social distancing as required under COVID-19 protocols and also that those engaged in the programme would work temporarily as COVID-19 scorpions while some would serve in other areas such as cleaning in schools.

The Vice President toured Swaneng Hill School, Newtown primary and Boipelego junior secondary to appreciate their preparedness for re-opening.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Employment Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Mpho Balopi, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Developmen,t Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe and Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja. ends
