The President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has praised fathers for ensuring development and growth of families.
When delivering a Fathers’ Day message to the nation yesterday, he also commended fathers for contributing to the country’s development.
“Spiritual development has often, not always, been led by men who are fathers,” he said.
President Masisi said Botswana attained its status of a leading developing country because men played their unique role.
Furthermore, he said, the Botswana Police Service (BPS) had stepped up efforts in responding to gender based violence (GBV) issues.
He said cases of domestic violence, rape and incest, often had a gender dimension.
“Unfortunately and very sadly, it would seem the average age of those who are victims is reducing far too frequently and broadly,” he said.In this regard, he implored fathers and would be fathers to become real fathers and celebrate fatherhood.
The President further called on fathers to reflect on aspirations of the country so that it could meet its targets of Vision 2036 and ideals of Sustainable Development Goals as enshrined in the SDG document of 2030. ends
