Alexander Forbes has assisted Khurutshe Primary School with goods valued at P75 000 to help mitigate the risks of contracting coronavirus.

Officiating at the handing over ceremony on June 19, the Minister of Basic Education Mr Fidelis Molao said the goods, which included geysers, hand sanitisers, soap dispensers, masks, toiletries and blankets, would contribute towards the school’s preparedness in the fight against the global pandemic.

He also acknowledged Alexander Forbes for engaging local contractors for the installation of the donated geysers and soap dispensers, saying this was in line with government’s plans of local economic empowerment which aims to create jobs and grow the local economy.

Mr Molao observed that  schools were ready and compliant to the set regulations in  preparation to receive the remaining batch of pupils.

He said inspections for schools’ readiness had been ongoing throughout the country with notable progress.

For her part, Alexander Forbes chief executive officer Ms Poloko Masitara said they had seen it important to support the education sector as schools had to adapt to the new normal under the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Education is an integral component of the socio-economic development of our country and our donation recognises and acknowledges the need for the private sector to be involved in the education sector,” she said.

She said Alexander Forbes was currently running a project called Teach A Child to Save, through which they imparted valuable financial skills to children.

When giving a vote of thanks, Kgatleng District Council chairperson Mr Daniel Molokwe appreciated the company for heeding government’s call to assist in the fight against the COVID-19. ENDS
