Ntsabane trust donates hampers

21 Jun 2020

The Keabonye Ntsabane Gender-Based Violence Trust has donated food hampers and blankets to some members of the Taung community.

The trust donated 74 food hampers and 70 blankets to the underprivileged and elderly of the village on June 18.

Handing the donations, Ms Keabonye Ntsabane who is the trust founder and Taung Ward Councillor said the donations donated to the Trust by The Caring Touch Ladies and they were meant to augment the existing efforts in the village.

Ms Ntsabane said there was no doubt that the government efforts to donate foods hampers during the COVID-19 lockdown did not reach all members of the community.

Ms Ntsabane said the blankets were solicited for the elderly in Taung ward.

For his part, Kgosi Lebogang Masie of Taung said the donations were a relief especially to those who did not benefit during the food distribution.

Kgosi Masie said government alone could not afford to provide for all community members hence the need for other stakeholders such as Keabonye Ntsabane Gender-Based Violence Trust to help.

Further, Kgosi Masie implored the community to observe all the health precautions aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.

He said the country was not yet free from the virus and regretted that some community members were reported to be sneaking to South Africa.

Kgosi Masie said such individuals put the life of their families and the community at risk of contracting the diseases, more so that south Africa was reporting high numbers of COVID-19.

Therefore, he encouraged the community to respect the law and health protocols.

He also cautioned against home brewing of traditional beer adding that beer brewers should also come up with ideas on how best their trade should be conducted going forward.

Senior Administration and Researcher in the office of the Member of Parliament, Mr Tumelo Ramopedi thanked the Keabonye Ntsabane Gender-Based Violence Trust for the gesture.

He said COVID-19 has impacted on the livelihoods of some people such as traditional brewers, hence the need for the community members to assist one another. ENDS
