17 Jun 2020

The Serowe Sub-council has been told that there will be no budget for constituency community projects this financial year.

Briefing a sub-council session this week, its economist  Ms Dimpho Mokgethi said her  office had received  correspondence with regards to the implementation of 2020/2021 community constituency projects.

The correspondence, she explained, had therefore advised sub-councils to complete 2018/19 and 2019/20 projects.

She said the Serowe Sub- council would implement 85 projects budgeted for in the 2019/20 financial year.

For 2018/19, she said 43 projects had been completed, 11 were between 76-99 per cent, two between 51- 75 per cent,  one between 26- 50 per cent while 20 were between 0-20 percent.

Ms Mokgethi said P1 903 205.43 had been realised as  balances from three constituencies during the 2017/18 financial year being P696 343.10 from Serowe North, P447 812.86 from Serowe South and P700 535.59 from Serowe West.

She said for Serowe South P72 688.01 was used for the maintenance of Sehunou RADS hostel while an amount of P215 712.00 was disbursed for the completion of Itsokwane culvert.

The remaining balance for Serowe South stood at P159 412.85, she said.

As for Serowe North, she said, an amount of P107 010 was utilised for borehole project at Patlwe leaving a balance being P589 333.10.

Ms Mokgethi said during financial year 2018/19, a total of P796 614.31 was realised comprising P316 447.98 from Serowe North, P154 622.76 from Serowe South and P325 543.57 Serowe West.

Serowe sub-council chairperson Mr Lesedi Phuthego advised councillors to liaise with their area MPs and decide how to utilise savings realised under constituency community projects.

He said it was important for officials to always share information, especially with the MPs, so that they could know how much money was left after completion of the projects in their area.

That, he said, would also help them to decide on the developments they wanted to undertake with the savings. ENDS
