A one year-old toddler who perished during an inferno in Molepolole on June 12, was buried June 16.

The toddler died after the house he was sleeping in with two other siblings aged four and seven was engulfed by fire caused by a candle.

Molepolole Station Commander Motlhaba Ramaabywain said an interview on June 16 that the three children were left unattended by their 23-year-old mother on the fateful night.

“The two children managed to escape unhurt and were spotted standing outside the burning house by their aunt who was sleeping at the main house in the compound,” narrated a family spokesperson Ms Zakiah Motsewabeng in an interview.

She revealed that the baby was picked from the burning house by his uncle after breaking a window to gain entry into the house.

Mr Ramaabywa said a similar incident occurred at Magokotswane ward where a three bedroomed house was gutted by fire, destroying valuables worth around P27 000.

It is suspected the blaze was caused by an electrical fault and no injuries were reported from the incident.

Investigations, he said, were ongoing to establish the cause of the two fire incidents. Meanwhile Superintendent, Ramaabywa said they had launched manhunt for armed robbers who stole cash amounting to P60 000 at Molepolole Choppies SupaSave.

The robbers allegedly overpowered security officers, forcing entrance into the store, a few minutes after closing and took the day’s cash flow from the cashiers.

The station commander further indicated, that a similar incident occurred at Borakalalo Choppies store in the past week where P8 000 cash was seized from one of the robbers following a chase by the security officers.

He said perpetrators in the two incidents were still at large and appealed to members of the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile Thamaga Station Commander Superintendent Moses Kwarare, said investigations were on about an incident in which a nurse at Scottish Livingstone was swindled cash amounting to P3,500 on June 13. The suspect fraudulently obtained the said amount from the victim on the pretext that he mistakenly transferred cash into the victim’s orange account. ENDS
