17 Jun 2020

Nijel Amos is scheduled to compete in the coast-to-coast dual race in the United States on Saturday (June 20).

Amos, of Oregon Track Club, will be competing in 600 metres against Dylan Capwell of Atlanta Track Club Elite.

He noted in a telephone interview that they would be competing remotely, as they were expected to adhere to all COVID-19 protocols. He added that they would be competing in a closed venue with no spectators.

He said he was proud to be part of the competition race as it would be used to raise funds. He added that his little contribution of taking part in the race would be used to benefit someone’s life.

On other issues, Amos said COVID-19 restrictions were easing in America, and that he had been busy training in preparation for the new season.

He said he was scheduled to race in Monaco in August, adding that he was working out all the logistics in order to take part in the race. He also added that he would follow all the medical protocols that were in place.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Track Club news says the ‘return of the dual’ will consist of a men’s and women’s 600m and 1 200m races, each featuring one athlete per club.

It says the winner of each discipline will receive one point, and that the competition will conclude with a 2x2x400m split gender relay. The relay teams will be made up of two athletes from each team.

The winning relay team will receive three points and the team with the highest points will be crowned champions. Athletes in Atlanta and Oregon will begin their races simultaneously and the winner will be decided by a hand time.

It further says both teams will compete at closed venues with no spectators and in adherence with all COVID-19 requirements and guidelines. ends
