Selebi Phikwe council inducts COVID-19 Scorpions

Selebi Phikwe Town Council has engaged temporary COVID-19 Scorpions to ensure compliance to COVID-19 protocols and regulations.
Speaking at the Scorpions’ induction Monday, Deputy Clerk, Mr Domkrag Gontse challenged them to ensure all COVID-19 safety regulations are abided by.
He explained that the scorpions were going to be entrusted with the implementation of the COVID-19 protocols regulations and pleaded with them to be innovative and creative.
Mr Gontse said he believed that they were the right people, given their qualifications as environmental health officers.
“Expectations are high, we expect that people of your calibre should be knowledgeable on the issues of health,” he said.
Amongst other duties the COVID-19 Scorpions are expected to educate the public on COVID-19 requirements and protocols, perform screening, keep registers, inspect premises such as offices and business establishments that are frequented by the public.
Selebi Phikwe District Health Management Team, Environmental Health Officer, Mr Mbaki Marema stressed that the Scorpions should be up to date concerning COVID-19.
He said they were expected to ensure that people wash their hands with clean water and soap wherever possible and the use of authorized hand sanitisers and to enforce the use of masks.
Mr Marema further warned them against incorrect use of the infrared thermometres, explaining that the forehead and the right temple were the most appropriate to get an accurate temperature reading. Ends
