Greater Gaborone lockdown ends
15 Jun 2020
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has issued a notice in the Government Gazette Extraordinary lifting Greater Gaborone lockdown with effect from Monday midnight.
Updating the nation on Botswana Television yesterday, director of health services, Dr Malaki Tshipayagae, said lifting the lockdown was based on evidence that the risks posed by COVID-19 in the zone had decreased.
He said 10 out of 16 probable COVID-19 cases that were recorded at Gaborone Private Hospital had tested negative. Results of six others were still pending by yesterday.
Dr Tshipayagae said after assessing progress in fighting the spread of COVID-19 and consulting with President Masisi, a decision was taken to release Greater Gaborone from the lockdown that was implemented on Friday midnight.
However, Dr Tshipayagae appealed to communities to desist from risky behaviour such as social activities that include parties and continue abiding by precautionary measures aimed at curbing spread of the coronavirus. ends
