End of year examinations ready

Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) will strive to produce internationally competitive examinations, despite challenges brought by the COVID 19 pandemic.
Briefing the media on Sunday, BEC chief executive officer, Professor Brian Mokopakgosi, said examinations for all completing classes were ready and would be written as scheduled.
However, Professor Mokopakgosi said the council was aligning the examination time tables with the reviewed school calendar after the school learning time was lost during the lockdown period.
He expressed optimism that pupils would be able to complete the school curriculum before the examination period.
He assured the public that all preparatory measures were in place for the resumption of Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), Junior Certificate Examination (JCE) and Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education (BGCSE).
“Despite the pandemic, BEC will ensure the provision of examination and assessment system that is affiliated to the national curriculum, that is not detached from current issues in the environment, also relevant to the local market,” he said.
Regarding compliance to set health protocols, Prof Mokopakgosi highlighted that the council was determined to follow all health protocols and assessment standards during the examination time.
He added that BEC would extend its mandate to examine some tertiary schools such as technical and vocational colleges. ENDS
