15 Jun 2020

Mowana Copper Mine, through their social community responsibility programme, have donated P11 000 worth of food packages to 52 families of Lepashe and Kutamogoree.

The donation at Kutamogoree was handed to the village leadership to be distributed among beneficiaries by the social and community development office.

Half of the donation will benefit Lepashe while the other will benefit Kutamogoree residents. Mowana mine is between Mosetse and Dukwi.

This was the copper mine’s second donation after donating P10 000 worth of food commodities to some households at Dukwi and Mosetse during the lockdown in April.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the plant manager at Mowana Copper Mine, Mr Llody Nyoka said given the current situation stemming from the coronavirus outbreak, it called for assisting and protecting each other against the virus.

He said while they were still under judicial management, through the support of their employees they saw it fit to extend a helping hand through their social community responsibility programme to relief Lepashe and Kutamogoree residents.

Mr Nyoka further noted that their mine had started doing well and were hopeful given the progress and improvement they saw as management, adding that as such, they would start channeling their support to community activities and projects around them.

He added that the aid they were bringing was paying heed to President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s call for private and business community to help Batswana affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his welcome remarks, Kutamogoree headmen, Kgosi Motsamai Kgosi appreciated the generosity of the mine during a time when most companies had been affected by the pandemic.

He said it was a noble gesture and promised to wisely distribute the food packages guided by social workers to help households in dire need. Ends
