Community testing on cards - VP

14 Jun 2020

The Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, says Botswana will soon embark on community testing to gauge COVID-19 spread in the country.

Addressing residents of Maun and Toteng in the North West District on Thursday, Mr Tsogwane urged Batswana to ready themselves for this undertaking.

He said the country initially focused on contact tracing due to limited resources, adding that the ongoing contact tracing was going on well.

He further implored the people of Ngamiland to continue adhering to COVID-19 regulations to prevent spread of the virus.

He said registration of people, social distancing and avoiding unnecessary trips were crucial to preventing spread of the pandemic.

Mr Tsogwane thanked frontline officers for their sacrifice.

Parliament, he said, also acted swiftly to allow the state of public emergency, which he said assisted in making relevant decisions and services available.

The Vice President also thanked those who continued to contribute to the COVID-19 relief fund.

Mr Tsogwane said the objective of his meeting with the Maun Emergency Operations Centre team was to appreciate its response to COVID-19 in the district.

He visited three schools in Maun and one in Toteng.
