Marriage registration on amidst coronavirus
14 Jun 2020
While the battle against COVID-19 continues following the extreme social distancing period, many are trying to find normalcy in their lives.
We visited the Civil and National Registration office and the district commissioner’s office in Francistown to see how things were unfolding post lockdown
Those getting married could now visit the Civil and National Registration offices to register, but according to the registration superintendent in Francistown, Ms Rosinah Motingwa, only a maximum of four people were allowed to attend the marriage registration process.
“Only the couple seeking marriage and two witnesses will be allowed,” said Ms Motingwa.
Francistown district commissioner, Ms Chabongwa Matseka said Thursdays and Fridays have been set aside to conduct marriages.
Like the Civil and National Registration, Ms Matseka said only the couple to be solemnised and two witnesses would be allowed.
“The public should remember that we administer marriages in the same premises we work in, and it is important that we manage the numbers that come into the building,” said Ms Matseka
She noted that COVID-19 protocols prohibited crowding.
Newlyweds, Mr Foreman Aleck and Ms Keeme Aleck were saddened by the new normal that prohibits them to joyfully celebrate their union with friends and family.
Mr Aleck said they had to accept the current circumstances due to coronavirus and adhere to set protocols while Ms Aleck urged those willing to get married not to despair and continue with their plans.
She encouraged all to have faith in God and trust that the pandemic would pass.
The newlyweds were content with how the district commissioner’s office conducted the process and adhering to COVID-19 protocols.
The fact that celebrations are not possible did not dampen their spirits and are planning a ceremony once everything is back to normal. ENDS
