Greater Gaborone under lockdown

13 Jun 2020

The Greater Gaborone COVID-19 Zone has been put under lockdown effective midnight June 12.

A media release from the Presidential COVID-19 Task Force states that the development is due to the discovery of new COVID-19 cases in Gaborone.

The release states that movement into the Greater Gaborone COVID-19 Zone (from Ramatlabama in the South up to Dibete) will be permitted to those with valid inter-zonal permits only.

“No movement out of Greater Gaborone COVID-19 Zone shall be allowed,” states the release further noting that there shall be absolutely no movement without a permit as was the case during the initial phase one lockdown or extreme social distancing.

Only essential services will be permitted while the rest of the services will be closed.

The release states that movement permits, including essential services permits, shall be required until further notice.

Permits may be accessed through www.gov.bw.

Meanwhile, an earlier media release still from the COVID-19 Task Force informs the public of the immediate shut down of the Gaborone Private Hospital and Stanbic Bank, Fairgrounds facilities.

The release states that the shut down is due to possible COVID-19 exposure at the facilities, and will remain until further notice.

It further states that all staff, patients and visitors who received care or visited the facilities, between June 8 and June 12 should immediately self-quarantine for 14 days and call 16649 if they have any questions about self-quarantine.

“Those on self-quarantine should use the attached form for monitoring COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone who develops symptoms contained in the form should immediately call 16649 so that they may be advised on how to access health services,” states the release.

While further investigations continue, the release says the Contact Tracing Team will also communicate with those who have visited the hospital and bank, and are deemed to require further medical attention.

The public is advised to adhere to COVID-19 health advisories to mitigate against the spread of the disease. Ends
