Morwaeng urges whistleblowers to report misuse of wage subsidy

Batswana have been urged to step forward and report embezzelment of wage subsidy incidents.
Expressing concern over reports of some companies using the subsidy for unintended purposes, Minister for Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration, Mr Kabo Morwaeng said action would be taken against perpetrators.
Speaking during the handing over of donations to the COVID-19 relief fund, Mr Morwaeng assured the nation that government would thoroughly investigate the allegations of fraud.
Meanwhile Mr Mrwaeng expressed gratitude to donors who continue to contribute to the fund saying to date total cash donations amounted to P100 million.
He encouraged the donors to be proud of their generosity as it had resulted in improved livelihoods of Batswana in the COVID-19 pandemic era.
encouraging them to maintain the spirit of giving.
“Every contributor, therefore, must be proud that they have had a hand in the implementation of solutions when the nation needed it. Government and the people of Botswana are deeply indebted and hopeful that the same compassionate spirit will be maintained into the future,” he said.
Minister Morwaeng said even though not everyone could donate to the fund, Batswana across the country had made invaluable contributions by complying with health protocols and all measures put in place.
He also applauded organisations which had managed to retain employees during the lockdown period adding that the gesture had positively impacted the lives of Batswana.
The minister implored all stakeholders to overcome the impact of COVID-19 by working in one accord.
Furthermore, Minister Morwaeng commended the nation for complying with health protocols and the laws of the time noting that Batswana had largely stayed home and avoided unnecessary movement thus contributing to the containment of COVID-19. Ends
