SOS Serowe benefits from Morupule mine generosity

10 Jun 2020

Serowe SOS Children’s Village has received P16 400 worth of game meat from Morupule Coal Mine, a gesture that was highly commended by both the village leadership and the centre’s management.

The over 400 kilogrammes of meat was handed over by Morupule Coal Mine’s corporate affairs officer, Ms Boineelo Seitshiro to Bangwato deputy tribal authority, Kgosi Serogola Seretse, who received it on behalf of SOS management.

Prior to receiving the donation, Kgosi Seretse lauded the mine for having seen it fit to assist the centre, noting that every form of assistance that SOS received often went a long way in making the lives of children being cared for at the centre more comfortable.

He said it was also pleasing that Morupule Coal Mine was committed to giving back to communities in which it operated, a fact that he indicated was shown by the growing number of community projects the mine had carried out in the area over the years.

Similarly expressing gratitude for the good gesture, Serowe SOS programmes manager, Mr Philip Morebodi said acts similar to Morupule mine’s donation made all the difference to the efforts to give children living at SOS Children’s villages a memorable childhood.

Mr Morebodi noted that with many of the children not yet back at school after closure necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the centre was spending more on ensuring that the 93 children at the Serowe SOS continued to be well-fed, and that the meat donation was therefore a well-thought-out gift by Morupule mine.

On why the mine made the particular donation, Ms Seitshiro stated that Morupule Coal Mine endeavoured to always come up with unique ways of meeting the different needs within communities in which it operated, hence it had seen it appropriate to donate some game meat from its game park to Serowe SOS.

She said the mine was constantly on the look-out for opportunities to give back to the community and would, wherever possible, lend a helping hand. Ends
