Makwinja applauds teachers

The Assistant Minister of Basic Education Ms Nnaniki Makwinja has applauded teachers for working hard to ensure that schools re-open on the set date.

Speaking in an interview on after the tour of Mothamo Junior Secondary School in Moiyabana recently Ms Makwinja said with the few resources that they had, teachers became creative to ensure that they complied with COVID-19 protocols.

Ms Makwinja said that she toured Mothamo Junior School because there were concerns about the dilapidated buildings at the school.

She said that she wanted to get first-hand information about the state of the school.

She said though the school was still being renovated, she was satisfied there was progress especially the installation of water tanks and hand water basins.   

She said she was optimistic that on June 16 when the last batch of the students return to school all would be in place.

She added that she was satisfied that the preconditions for re-opening of the school would be met.

Ms Makwinja said that there was a need for the company which was engaged in the maintenance of the ablution blocks to speed up in order to meet the deadline.

On other issues, Ms Makwinja said that there was a need to find a solution on the issue of accommodation for teachers, noting that shortage of accommodation was a serious concern countrywide.

She said the ministry would find ways to help teachers with accommodation.

Member of Parliament for Serowe South Mr Leepetswe Lesedi thanked Ms Makwinja for touring the school, saying he was happy that the school was undergoing renovation. Ends
