10 Jun 2020

Boteti Sub-council chairperson, Mr Molemi Galeragwe says over P19 million will be availed to the Ipelegeng programme to cover wages for COVID-19 temporary workers.

Mr Galeragwe said this on Monday during the sub-council session held in Letlhakane.

He stated that COVID-19 temporary jobs included those for scorpions, cleaners, training of beneficiaries and procurement of personal protective equipment for cleaners and scorpions.

The programme would employ 204 COVID-19 scorpions, 452 cleaners and 92 cooks in Boteti-Sub-district for a period of 10 months, he said.

Beneficiaries will be engaged in all the 34 schools in Boteti, 25 of which are primary schools, eight junior schools and one senior school. He stated that through the programme, all individuals with requisite skills and qualifications would be given equal opportunities to partake in the programme.

Furthermore, Mr Galeragwe stated that constituency community projects had been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as the 2020/2021 project memorandum would not be funded.

All ongoing projects under the programme, he said, would be completed in 2020.

Mr Galeragwe said the council had managed to install hand washing basins in schools, maintained toilets that were dilapidated, and that new toilets were built where there was acute shortage.

He said continuous supply of toilet paper would be ensured in schools, and that toilet paper would be procured from local manufacturers in Rakops.

In addition, he stated that the COVID-19 task force had disbursed over P5 million to Boteti Sub-district to cater for food supplies as well as the engagement of local private vehicles.

Mr Galeragwe stated that expenditure stood at over P4 million, noting that since some payments were still being processed, the costs might exceed the allocated funds.

In addition, he said the ministry further issued P820 207 for purchasing of products such as eggs, watermelons, phane, chicken, oranges and rape among others from local farmers.

He stated that disbursed funds apportioned to Boteti-Sub-district was based on the 12 670 recommended households as of May 3, but that after further assessment, the number of recommended households had increased to 16 168 households. He noted that it represented an increase of 3 498 or 28 per cent growth, hence the over expenditure of the original budget.

Mr Galeragwe stated that only 16 343 households were recommended for food relief. Ends
