Councillor Chilume calls for Green Scorpions

09 Jun 2020

Orapa councillor, Mr Balopi Chilume has called for the engagement of Green Scorpions in the mining town.

Speaking during a sub-council meeting in Letlhakane on Monday, Mr Chilume said it would not be the first time that the Green Scorpions would be engaged in Orapa.

Commenting councillor Thomas Kgethenyane of Khumaga/ Moremaoto wondered why the people of Orapa were not engaged since they were also affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Senior assistant council secretary, Mr Milton Keitshokile said Orapa had its own regulations and that they might be a hindrance in engaging the Green Scorpions.

Mr Keitshokile, however, said since the recruitment of Green Scorpions was ongoing, a recruitment plan that would satisfy the mining town regulations would be worked out.

Councillor Kgethenyane moved that the Green Scorpions should be recruited in Orapa.

In addition, he requested that the vacancy of Matimela officer in Khumaga should be filled since the officer had been transferred to Rakops.

Councillor Otsile Mmatlakgomo also stated that the vacancy of Matimela officer in Khumaga was still vacant and needed to be filled.

Mr Keitshokile explained that a service centre was being established in Rakops, adding that the post of Matimela officer in Rakops would be covering all villages in Boteti West. Ends
