Companies to the rescue

Kalahari Tours, in partnership with African Field Sports, recently donated food hampers to about 200 households in Mababe village in the North West District.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the gift, worth P87 262.64, Kalahari Tours director Mr Hannes Pretorius said Mababe residents were the company’s first priority since most of them had lost their safari industry jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Pretorius said most of the community members who lost their jobs were the company’s employees and breadwinners in their families who therefore needed support.
He explained that part of the company’s social responsibility was to develop the Mababe community because they lived in a remote area which limited them from seeking employment elsewhere thereby resulting in poverty.
“We will continue supporting the Mababe community in difficult times because they have been cooperating well with us …,” Mr Pretorius said.
Mababe Zokotsama Community Development Trust vice chairperson, Mr Mmoloki Ditirwa, thanked the companies for the donation, adding that the food hampers would help rescue residents from starvation.
“The donation indicates that these companies really care about the community and they are willing to develop it,” he said. Ends
