08 Jun 2020

Botswana has registered one more COVD-19 recovery case bringing to 24 the total number of recoveries in the country.

Department of Public Health director, Dr Malaki Tshipayagae told a press briefing yesterday that Botswana currently had only one active case.

Dr Tshipayagae revealed that two new positive transit cases had been recorded.

He said the two, both males, were travelling from Zambia and were entering Botswana through the Kazungula border.

They were both in stable condition and had been sent back to their country of origin after consultation and agreement between Botswana and Zambia, he said.

Dr Tshipayagae noted that the two increased to 42 the number of cases recorded in Botswana thus far including one death, 24 recoveries and one active case.

He said 19 of the cases were imported and measures on contact tracing were done accordingly.

Dr Tshipayagae advised that as the country gradually moved into the new normal, it was imperative to adhere to all COVID-19 preventative measures.

“Most of the COVID-19 cases are imported, and there is a chance that these cases will continue to grow, as such it is wise for the public to be vigilant and practice all preventative measures,” he stressed.

He said contract tracing testing in Mogoditshane has been conducted and results would be availed in due course. ENDS
