Readiness of Molepolole College of Education (MCE) and Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) in Molepolole for re-opening has impressed the Minister of Tertiary Education Research Science and Technology Dr Douglas Letsholathebe.
Dr Letsholathebe expressed his satisfaction when touring the two institutions recently.
The minister, who was accompanied by the area Member of Parliament, Mr Kabo Morwaeng, said the level of compliance demonstrated commitment by the schools’ management.
He said management of IHS was duty bound to join hands with other stakeholders in the district to reach-out to the community they operate in to ensure information dissemination on COVID-19 related issues.
“It is important that IHS as an institution of health act collectively with other stakeholders in taking communities on board on relevant COVID-19 issues that will make them understand what is required of them,” advised minister Letsholathebe.
Dr Letsholathebe further commended the initiative by MCE’s school management of doing some works in-house to meet government half way, noting the installation of 10 water tanks around the school premises to augment the supply of water in the institution.
The initiative, he said was welcome as government remained financially challenged
Minister Morwaeng shared Dr Letsholathebe’s sentiment that compliance at MCE and IHS was demonstration of dedication and commitment by responsible individuals.
He assured IHS school management of his unwavering support in finding a lasting solution to water challenge in the institution which he said remained worrisome.
Mr Morwaeng, who is also Minister for Presidential Affairs Governance and Public Administration further called on students of the two institutions to exercise some level of responsibility and ensure that they adhered to set COVID-19 regulations.
The two ministers assured management of the two institutions of plans to visit them soon, where issues of staff welfare would be looked into.
IHS Principal Ms Agang Mookodi said water problem at the institution had persisted for a long time and noted that it was an issue that needed to be attended to as matter of urgency given the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We have been able to put in place the measures as per the regulations through installation of 20 liters water bottles at the strategic areas, seven themometers to ensure the institution operates within the set rules,” said IHS principal.
She further said plans were afoot to run a one-week long orientation, where information on COVID-19 would be disseminated to students with counselling sessions to allay fears.
Molepolole College of Education SHE Focal Person Ms Albertinah Phiri said all was well at MCE citing registers, infrared thermometers and sanitisation placed at the three strategic points to be used by staff and the students as per requirements. Ends
