Table Tennis body secures sponsorship

Botswana Table Tennis Association (BTTA) has secured a P96 000 sponsorship, thanks to Phoenix Assurance Group.
The sponsorship was unveiled on Saturday at an open table tennis tournament.
The P96 000 deal will run for this year only and will benefit the BTTA calendar of events and prize moneys for tournaments.
Speaking at the sponsorship unveiling, BTTA president, Kudzanani Motswagole said the deal provided a beacon of hope for the sport in attempts to be at par with their international counterparts.
“This sponsorship is a breath of fresh air to BTTA. In my opinion, this is a breakthrough for our sport. It is a result of hard work and commitment from the executive committee,” he said.
Motswagole further thanked the Phoenix Assurance Group for their contribution to BTTA, saying they went an extra mile in improving the sport.
For his part, Phoenix Assurance Group CEO, Carlson Chiswo said they rated sport highly as it was an essential part of society and could be imperative in human development.
“Sport is an all-round tool for the development of a young mind. At Phoenix we believe in giving back to the community and developing sports at the grassroots level. This contribution will help BTTA to complete national tournaments.”
Meanwhile, after the sponsorship unveiling the tournament went ahead. It attracted players from all corners of the country comprising of 25 women and 45 men.
In the ladies singles section, Tshepiso Rebanne beat Boitshwarelo Butale 3-0 in the finals.
In the men’s singles category, Tshenolo Mooketsi (BDF) beat Boago Malobela (Smash maniacs) 3-2 and in the semi-finals Thobo Matlhatsi of BDF and Masa Lesole of Smash Maniacs faced off.
The champions walked away with P3 000 each and run-ups with P1 800 while semi-finalists scooped P800 and quarter-finalists walked away with P400. Ends
