Companies that failed to pay employees during lockdown will be taken to task, according to the Vice President, Mr Slumber Tsogwane.

Mr Tsogwane told an urban extension team meeting in Orapa on Monday that most of the companies contracted in the mines failed to pay their employees although they were paid. 

He indicated that some of the companies paid their staff members based in areas such as Jwaneng, but failed to pay those based in Orapa, stressing that companies that failed to pay their employees despite benefiting from the wage subsidy, would be taken to task.

He said the culprits were not only companies working in the mines.

The Vice President was responding to a concern raised by Orapa councillor, Mr Balopi Chilume, that some of the companies that had benefitted from the wage subsidy failed to pay their employees. 

The Vice President also implored officers to register the orphans in Orapa. 

Meanwhile, he commended Batswana for complying with the COVID-19 regulations, adding that some COVID-19 carriers were asymptomatic. 

When commenting, Orapa Urban Extension Team member, Ms Kolobetso Seabe said 76 households were issued with food hampers. 

Ms Seabe added that food hampers were also issued to gardeners, house helpers and those whose companies were not operating during lockdown. Ends
