Ban possible

Batswana have been warned that irresponsible behaviour associated with alcohol consumption would lead to the reimposition of the ban.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi said government was aware that the opening up of alcohol might have a negative impact on the country’s efforts in curbing the spread of COVID 19.
“I urge Batswana to take all necessary precautions because should there be regress in containment of the disease, we may be forced to impose the restrictions again in order to ensure the safety of all of us,” he warned.
Following government’s decision to allow the sale and distribution of alcohol, which was barred during the 49-day lockdown period, the President said it was important for all to be sensible, sensitive and responsible.
As the country transitioned into the new normal, he stressed Batswana to act responsibly for containment and management of COVID-19.
President Masisi said the easing of lockdown regulations was necessary to enable adjustment to new normal.
The President urged the nation to pray for eradication of COVID -19 and declared June 5, 6 and 7 national prayer days.
Earlier, he had asked for observance of a moment of silence in remembrance of George Floyd, an African American who died at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer on May 25. Ends
