03 Jun 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it a new normal, which calls for good hygiene.
Minister of Basic Education, Mr Fidelis Molao said this on Monday when handing over eleven classrooms and one science laboratory to Ikageng Junior Secondary School in Metsimotlhabe.
It is now a requirement for schools to have hand washing basins or sanitiser dispensers, temperature checkups, sick bays and toilets maintained.
Minister Molao said educators should learn from the COVID-19 pandemic and have a health and wellness orientated schools.
He said being health and wellness cautious could also help to fight some sicknesses which resulted in overcrowding at health facilities.
Therefore, he said the community should also be cautious of issues of health and wellness as a lesson learnt from COVID-19.
He said the community had an important role to play in ensuring that school premises remained safe from the virus.
The minister said the opening of schools starting with Standard Sevens, Forms Threes and Forms Fives allowed educators to gauge schools preparedness.
“We have to trial the system and see where the gaps are, so that we close them,” Minister Molao said. Ends
