Social club donates masks to Pudologong

03 Jun 2020

Rebels social club has donated 100 face masks worth P4 000 to Pudulogong Rehabilitation and Development Centre.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony at the centre recently, Rebels social club representative Mr Bobby Kgabo said they hoped the donation was  a start of a working relationship with Pudulogong as they looked to do more in Kgatleng district.

He said in the past, they had social responsibility initiatives in other areas like Jwaneng and now wished to collaborate more with Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs) in Kgatleng where their social club is based.

Mr Kgabo said they recently met with Kgatleng District Council officials in an effort to identify areas they could assist in.

“This pandemic has shown us that we need to change the way we live and be self-sufficient in terms of locally produced products and services,” he said.

He said the entire world is reeling from the effects of COVID-19 pandemic and history showed that the last pandemic to hit the world was in 1918. He said Batswana needed to work diligently with health officials and heed advice from those tasked with providing guidance.

“Let us continue to observe social distancing, wear face masks all the time in public and wash our hands with water and soap,” he said.

He further indicated that the masks are meant for the students at Pudulogong.

“I went to school with some of them and this is just a way of assisting because there is a need and shortage of these resources to go around,” he said.

For his part, Coordinator of Pudulogong Mr David Ratsatsi said this was a welcome gesture as they needed as much help as they could get to ensure students and those working at the centre were protected.

He applauded the club for heeding government’s call in extending a helping hand to those less fortunate and the most at risk members of society and said Batswana were learning that innovation was the way forward and to stop over reliance on imports.

“We can do these things locally and there is so much investment that can be done. Everything has to start somewhere and we will grow,” he said.

He noted that Botswana had been complacent and this did not mean they could not do it,but  needed to pull together and work hard at achieving financial and economic freedom for Batswana. ENDS
