Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Dumezweni Mthimkhulu says he is happy with the state of schools in his constituency.
Speaking after touring the school facilities in his Gaborone South constituency, Mr Mthimkhulu said although the work was not 100 per cent complete, it was pleasing given that the situation was suitable for the learning environment.
Furthermore, he said he was also happy because the teachers were also doing everything possible to ensure that student safety is prioritized.
“All the schools have put in measures to make sure that they are compliant with the COVID-19 protocol, so generally I am very happy with what I just saw,” he said.
At Therisano Primary, Mr Mthimkhulu told both the student and the teachers that Corona-virus was still here and the most important thing was to take extra care.
He told the students to take their education seriously, so that they can become future leaders of this country and to the teachers, he said everyone panicked when the first case of COVID-19 pandemic case was announced.
The assistant minister said the government recognizes the good job that teachers in different schools were doing in teaching and molding the students.
“But what I can tell you is that COVID-19 is still there, yes we have contained it and we should not rest on our laurels,” he said.
Mr Mthimkhulu said the schools did their best under the circumstances they were working under in a short time and thanked both Gaborone City Council (GCC) and the Ministry of Basic Education for a job well done.
