All the schools in Selebi Phikwe have opened doors after satisfying all the COVID-19 protocols.
In an interview on June 2, Mr Masedi said that all the schools in the mining town have been inspected and permitted to start operating after closing for almost two months.
He said only the completing classes, Standard Sevens, Form Threes and Form Fives have started school while the rest of the classes would resume classes after two weeks.
He said the two week period would give both teachers and pupils time to adjust to the new COVID-19 regulations and manage themselves easily.
He said pupils would be oriented on the COVID-19 protocols for the next two days and start classes afterwards.
Mr Masedi added that his office had made a provision for infra-red thermometers and sanitisers as well installed hand wash basins to enable pupils to easily access water to wash hands regularly as required.
Regarding class sizes, Mr Masedi said currently the resources are enough to accommodate all pupils, adding that double shift would be introduced in the second phase.
He said during the double shift pupils would be divided into two groups so that some attend in the morning while the other group attends in the afternoon.
In addition, the school head of Makhubu JSS, Ms Sealogane Modipe-Osentse said the day started well with screening of both teachers and pupils.
She said the exercise went well, urging pupils and teachers to always abide by the set regulations, which include wearing of masks, washing hands and sanitising.
The school head said the school had also created several serving points to avoid having pupils over-crowding for food.
She also commended parents for personally bringing their children to school and ensuring that they passed through screening. ENDS
