Police in Good Hope are investigating an incident in which a suspect abandoned a white Nissan NP 200 vehicle carrying three bags of a substance suspected to be dagga, with an estimated value of P242 000.

In an interview on Sunday, Good Hope Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kwapa said the suspect abandoned the vehicle near Hebron village, after realising that the police were on his trail, following a tip off that there was a vehicle along the border in South Africa around 11pm, which was suspected to have crossed into Botswana near Ditlharapeng village.

Superintendent Kwapa said the police followed the vehicle, which was driving towards Pitshane Molopo, but it took a different direction to Hebron when the suspect noticed that he were being followed by the police.

He said the suspect then stopped the vehicle, got out of the vehicle and upon searching it they found three 50 kg bags of a substance suspected to be dagga, containing about 242 small bags, which were to be taken to the forensic lab for testing.

He indicated that the police drove the car to the Good Hope police station.

The police chief said they suspected that the dagga came from South Africa. ENDS
