Bolux Group managing director, Mr Christo Ellis says they import white maize in quantities, adding that such beckons huge opportunity local farmers are yet to explore.

He said this recently when briefing Member of Parliament for Ramotswa constituency, Mr Lefoko Moagi at Bolux Group plant at Taung.

The managing director told area MP also the Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security that local farmers could be engaging more in the production of white maize as local farmers contribute only 10 per cent of white maize used locally.

He said that alone was an investment opportunity for farmers as millers such as Bolux were forced to import white maize.

Mr Ellis said Bolux Group was more than ready to engage with Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to assist with the production of white maize.

“We are strategic partners with government in food security,” he added

For his part, Mr Moagi said government was eager to see growth and expansion of local businesses in order to address job creation and food security.

 The minister said with the necessary support structures, local farmers would be able to produce white maize given the availability of the market.

The MP further promised to escalate the issue further to see to it that local farmers get support to produce white maize.

He stressed the need for the country to reduce reliance on imports to feed its population.

The minister also appreciated Bolux for having stayed in the country for over 25 years as well as settling in Taung.

He assured them of all the support they need in their stay in the South East District and the country.

Mr Moagi added that Taung offered Bolux the best place for business as they were situated along the railway line for easy transportation of their goods.

Bolux Group produces and packages brands such as A1 Super Maize meal brand, Snowwhite flour and Polana pasta with over 425 employees. ENDS
