The fight against COVID-19 is still far from over and Botswana appreciates the continued support from the people of China, says Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Lemogang Kwape.

Receiving donation of medical protective supplies from Chinese government in Gaborone on May 29, Dr Kwape said China continued to support Botswana’s endeavour to fight the coronavirus as evidenced by several donations government had received from China.

“Medical protective supplies remain a critical need in this time of COVID-19 especially for assisting our frontline service providers who are out there fighting the pandemic thus donation of medical supplies is highly appreciated as it will indeed assist in ensuring that our front line officers around the country are protected," he said.

He added that China had contributed immensely to the growth of the economy and health sector of Botswana.

Handing over goods, Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, Dr Zhao Yanbo said the consignment was the fifth batch of emergency medical supplies from China to Botswana.

Dr Zhao said his government encouraged Chinese enterprises to donate and assist their friends globally.

He applauded Botswana’s efforts in combating the coronavirus pandemic.

He said Chinese government was also offering moral support to Botswana and Africa in general that the fight against the virus was a winnable battle.

He said it was important to join hands now and fight to return to normalcy. ENDS
