Some schools need more beds - official
28 May 2020
Some boarding schools are in need of more beds, says Ministry of Basic Education (MoBE) southern region director, Mr Acronews Maseko.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Maseko said Maiteko Junior Secondary in Mabutsane was struggling to accommodate 30 learners, and that his office was working to find a lasting solution.
He also noted that Mogale Junior Secondary in Maokane needed space to provide 109 learners with accommodation.
He said they were in the process of procuring porta cabins to accommodate them, but that in the interim they had asked parents to continue keeping their children at home.
Mr Maseko added that they would provide transport for those staying at home until porta cabins were procured, but noted that boarding space was available for completing pupils.
He also said transporting pupils to and from school was unsustainable and would only be used as a short-term measure.
Mr Maseko also noted that Debswana had helped in fumigating schools that fell within the company’s 80 kilometre radius of influence.
He said home economics departments in schools were assisting with making masks for school communities. He urged all stakeholders to come on board in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. ENDS
