Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Mr Molefi Keaja says resumption of services by his ministry has resumed.
Addressing the media on May 27, Mr Keaja said under the civil and national registration department, the application and renewal of national cards (Omang) has resumed whilst the births and deaths certificates would continue to be registered amongst the various civil and national registration offices across the country.
Mr Keaja also noted that services such as society registration and name change services had started.
Furthermore, he said strict COVID-19 health regulations as prescribed by the Ministry of Health and Wellness would be put in place to protect the public.
He noted that church attendance was still limited to 50 individuals and that church leaders should ensure that services did not take more than two hours.
“The regulation of 50 people still stands with two services per week, In addition, there has to be an attendance register of all attendees as well as temperature checks and hand washing or the use of sanitizers should be adhered to,” he said.
For her part, director of the Department of Civil and National Registration, Ms Florah Lekoko pleaded with the public to practice social distancing, particularly new applicants of the national card.
“We have noticed a high influx of applicants requesting for Omang. I urge the public, especially new applicants, to await SMS notifications before visiting the national registration offices to check if their Omang cards were ready for collection. ENDS
