Government depends on teachers - Billy

28 May 2020

Teachers are guardians, parents, doctors and maids of pupils they are nurturing, says Assistant Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSEC), Mr Buti Billy.

Speaking during a tour of Lekgaba Hill Primary School to assess if it was ready to open after the COVID-19 lockdown, Mr Billy said the teachers’ positive mindset would help them to accomplish their targets.

He said their cooperation was vital and that it showed that they were ready to re-open the school because of the positive attitude they displayed.

Mr Billy said it was important to take the pandemic seriously and abide by the regulations from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The primary school’s head, Mr Shadrack Jani said the school was still faced with the challenge of hot water, and that the school’s Parent’s and Teachers Association (PTA) had promised to buy a geyser. He added that the City of Francistown would assist with electricity and six hand washing basins.

He noted that disinfection would be done in the school kitchen and classrooms, adding that each classroom was planned to accommodate 25 pupils while reception classes would use the trapezium method.

Mr Jani said they would have shorter breaks and lunch in order to reduce the time pupil’s spent mingling around and playing.

He said they were going to work under duress as some parents were going to advice their children not to use school sanitizers

He noted that they had one sanitizer, saying they needed more as they were going to deal with a larger population. ENDS
