Cold to very cold weather conditions are expected this week in some parts of country.

A media release from the Department of Meteorological Services says a cold front from the Atlantic Ocean is expected to pass over the southern half of the sub-region, including the southern part of Botswana.

The release says a high pressure system following the cold front is expected to bring cold and dry stable air mass that is expected to significantly drop temperatures from May 27-28.

Moreover, it says minimum and maximum temperatures will range between -6 Degrees Celsius to 2 Degrees Celsius and 16 Degrees Celsius to 21 Degrees Celsius respectively, over the southern parts of the country in Kgalagadi, Ghanzi, Southern, South East, Kgatleng and Kweneng districts).

It further says the rest of the country will experience mild temperatures of 8 Degrees Celsius to 13 Degrees Celsius (minimums) and 22 Degrees Celsius to 25 Degrees Celsius (maximums) during the same period.

It further states possible impacts due to the cold weather include crop damage due to overnight frost and prolonged period of cold temperatures.

Exposure to cold weather may increase the risk to contracting cold related diseases including cold and flu.

The department has therefore advised the public to take necessary precautions by keeping warm to reduce the impacts of the cold spells. ENDS
