Chadichadi springs to life
26 May 2020
Okavango flood waters have finally reached one of the popular ponds, Chadichadi in the periphery of Gumare village, after a yearlong dry spell.
Like other water sources such as Thamalakane River and Lake Ngami among others, Chadichadi was badly affected by the drought that hit the Okavango Delta last year.
Chadichadi has always been home to animals such as crocodiles, hippos and fish among others. The pond is also a watering point for livestock in the area.
The drying up of the pond last year due to the drought led to the deaths of many animals while some hippos migrated to nearby water areas.
Kgosi Eastman Motshidiemang of Tubu said they were excited about the current inflow at the pond as it meant their livestock would survive.
“This pond has existed for a long time now, and for years it has never gone completely dry. It was only last year when we saw such a misfortune when animals such as hippos suffered that much,” he said. Ends.
