'COVID-19 basket relief tenders transparent'
25 May 2020
Ghanzi East Sub-council, senior assistant council secretary says COVID-19 basket relief tenders are done in a transparent manner and they do not benefit a few.
Mr Thatayotlhe Balapi explained in an interview that priority was given to those who had not been awarded such tenders.
Again, he said bidders who quoted reasonably lower were allocated more families to supply food hampers.
“In the previous feeding, those who were reasonably lower were given a maximum of 61 household, while those who quoted higher were given maximum of 20 household to feed,” he said.
On the other hand, he explained that they had removed beans from the current request for quotation in order to get beans from farmers.
Mr Balapi appealed to beneficiaries to use food hampers sparingly to last for at least a month.
Meanwhile, he expressed concern about some individuals who joined other households after assessment, saying, ‘deliberate, tactful or ignorantly, it is a challenge because one person could benefit more than once’. ENDS
