24 May 2020

A popular entertainment spot along the Chobe/Zambezi River dubbed Kwa Letswaing remains a no go area even as the period of extreme social distancing is eased, Kasane police have warned.

The police raised alarm after members of the community started frequenting the spot for leisure including photo shooting.

Station commander, Superintendent James Maabong, said some residents who visited the area for fishing violated COVID-19 pandemic protocols especially social distancing and wearing of facial masks.

He said although lockdown had ended, people should continue with their discipline by adhering to regulations in order to assist government’s efforts in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.

Supt Maabong further stated that the area was also infested with dangerous animals such as crocodiles, adding that the spot formed part of the river in which a boy was snatched by a crocodile early this year.

He disclosed that the police had on several times chased people away but to no avail, saying the only option was to take legal action against those who would be found at the spot.ends
