Allocate tenders fairly

Boteti COVID-19 team has been urged to ensure fair allocation of food basket relief tenders.
The Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe said this on Wednesday in Mokubilo, Mmatshumo and Mosu, warning the team against disadvantaging tuck-shops by allocating large food baskets tenders to general dealers only.
Mr Lelatisitswe, who is also the area Member of Parliament, noted that often times tuck-shops were usually allocated tenders for families of one to two, which he said was unfair. He said tuck-shops should also be assisted during COVID-19 pandemic.
He said this would enable them to continue operating, adding that tuck-shop owners who were not allocated tenders should be rationed.
Mr Lelatisitswe further advised social welfare officers to supplement packages beneficiaries of destitution programme as the beneficiaries had been supplementing the food ration by doing small jobs before COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
Mokubilo Primary School head-teacher Ms Ikageng Segolodi raised concern that social distancing was going to create shortage of classes as the numbers of students per class would have to be reduced.
Mmatshumo Primary School head Ms Tumani Seganabeng said they would need 10 additional teachers or do rotational classes. She also expressed concern that students shared textbooks, which might lead to non-compliance to COVID-19 regulations. ENDS
